Home Ed Forest School

May 25, 2021 at 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Free – £7.50
Heart of the Woods Forest School

Forest school encourages children and young people to take responsibility for themselves and those around them – they will learn to work with others, developing social and emotional skills and resilience, as well as observing and questioning the natural environment around them.

Whilst our sessions are very much child led, we introduce transferable skills from tool use, fire lighting and shelter building, which we believe contributes to each member developing their own autonomy and allows them to progress at their own pace towards completing tasks such as lighting the campfire. We are currently unable to offer communal outdoor cooking.

Some of the activities available :

  • habitat creation, ecology, woodland maintenance skills, mapping
  • knife & tool skills
  • natural arts and crafts ; spoons to jewellery
  • tree id, uses and folklore
  • natural tinders and fire skills
  • free play and exploration
  • Lots of team working !

We are also able to offer an opportunity to undertake the John Muir Award within these sessions.

The sessions are aimed at ages 5 – 15, do get in touch if you would like to bring younger siblings.

We ask that you come dressed appropriately and prepared for all sorts of weathers. Sensible footwear is essential as there will be walking over uneven terrain.

We do have compost loos, hand washing and baby changing facilities on site.
